Betty is home

Betty was released from the hospital today and is doing much better. She is taking it easy at. It turns out that she did not have a heart attack but a condition that mimics one.

Betty Weaver is in the hospital

Betty had a heart attack Friday (6/26/09) night following her surprised 80th birthday party. She is doing better today but is still weak. Doctors are doing more test and treatments to get her stronger.

Keep her in your prayers that she will make a quick and full recovery.

Lilleen is doing better

Diane and I saw Lilleen when we were in Jacksonville in early June. She is doing much better. She is home and reading her novels, watching TV, and surfing the Internet. She enjoys seeing her great grandchildren when they come over. She is looking forward to her 91st birthday party in October. Mike

Subject: Mom has pneumonia

Just thought I would let you know that Mom has pneumonia and is hospitalized at St. Vincent's. She came down with a cold on Monday and it quickly turned into acute pneumonia by Wed. I had her go to the doctor yesterday afternoon and her PC immediately had her admitted. Paul came down with pneumonia a couple of days after Mothers Day and he was here for several hours that day. From one day to the next for both of them. I came down with the same terrible cold from one day to the next the same time as Mom. Fortunately for me, so far no pneumonia just a lot of coughing and congestion. My immune system is better I suppose.

Paul is better and was released today from his PC thank goodness. He has been out of work this week and most of last week.

I will keep you posted. I don't know how long Mom will be in the hospital, but she is responding so far to treatment. As she has Secondary pulmonary hypertension, nothing to fool around with. She has to be on oxygen at night to sleep.

Evelyn Harrington is now in Heaven

EVELYN W. HARRINGTON, 89, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto from natural causes. She was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church and a retired clerk from the Memphis Defense Depot. She was a volunteer for many of the Wonder Series and for the Orpheum. She was also an active member in many of her church organizations including Mother Cabrini Circle, Ministry to the Sick, and Legion of Mary. She leaves her daughter, Diane Goldman (Daniel) of Plymouth, MN; her two sons, Ray Harrington (Kay) of Clearwater, FL and Michael Harrington of Memphis; and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Harrington of Memphis. She also leaves two sisters, Lilleen Warren of Jacksonville, FL and Betty Weaver of Tarpon Springs, FL; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Thursday, February 14 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Funeral Mass to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to St. Paul Catholic Church, the Heart Association, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Roy overdid it..

Roy (and I) are very very tired and are trying to rest up, catch up with sleep and handle so many telephone calls and people's desires to 'come over and visit' .... Roy loves all the attention of course - all the outpouring of love is so very healing - but should be balanced with giving him time to rest! The cards - especially the really funny ones - are really appreciated! We've also been watching silly, funny DVD's at night - to get our minds off of things (like the loss of income due to being unable to work) and laugh! We're in very good moods, and full of gratitude. :-) Love you all!

Roy slept almost all day after

The UNBELIEVABLY BUSY day: (Last Thursday, one week after surgery)

Dear All,

Roy is doing so well - walking, driving, almost normal energy and strength! Prayers are being answered everywhere - the Foley catheter was removed today, only one week after the surgery and he's a new man! We were up at 3:30 a.m. today, went to Jackson Memorial at 7a.m., doctor visit, then across the street to the Sylvester Cancer Center for radio-opaque Xrays - no internal leaks! - walked all over the place, cross the street, up and down stairs..then back to the doctor's for testing before removing the catheter.. We're still awaiting the pathology report, but expect it to be just fine. Went out to late lunch at Kyosin Buffet, attempted to visit a friend (Dr. Leslie Polland) in the hospital, went grocery shopping, came home to rest for a while, then I got up and worked a bit on continuing to clear out and fumigating our shed which had been packed since Hurricane Andrew, then we went to my daughter Lorrie's and and her husband Manny's for dinner. On the way, stopped at the drugstore to buy butterfly bandages as I wanted to close up the remaining open incision, (there were seven incisions!) the drain hole which had not been sutured..

My son Bruce was late to Lorrie and Manny's dinner.. he had a car accident close to his dad's house! His truck was hit, then another car came by and ripped the door off right out of his hand! Hurt his finger slightly. My son-in-law Manny who is a Miami Dade policeman/fireman/paramedic went to check it out.. took Bruce back with him to the dinner at home, but on the way back, they saw a motorcycle lying on the side of the road! Manny, being first on the scene, checked that out.. determined the poor fellow had a compound fracture of his leg..bleeding and in shock.. he called for a helicopter rescue, reset the bone, splinted it with debris from the side of the road! and came home for the family dinner with us.

God's Providence is Awesome. We are grateful that Roy is healing so well that they removed the catheter so soon, that Bruce was not hurt in the accident, that he was driving his big truck and not my little car, that Manny was on the scene quickly, that they were close to Bruce's dad's house and could leave the truck there, and that Manny could drive Bruce to the dinner, and that Manny, paramedic was on the spot to help the poor motorcycle victim on the way home. So many blessings.

And - Besides celebrating Roy's obviously rapidly healing in progess we are the joyous new Great-grandparents of Marie Claire, born a couple days ago!

Update on Evelyn Harrington

Dear Family & Friends,

I would like to bring you up-to-date on my mother. It has been just over a year since she suffered a serious stroke which left her paralyzed on her right side and has also affected her swallowing and talking.

She had three months of therapy to get her to learn how to use her left arm as she is right handed. She also had therapy to improve her swallowing and speech. While she made good progress with her therapy, she did not gain back full control of her swallowing and her speech did improve but not like it was before her stroke. She was borderline on being able to take food by mouth but was given the OK to eat puréed food and drink thick liquids.

She suffered another setback in September when she suffered a bad seizure and was also diagnose with pneumonia that put her in the hospital for several days. Her speech became weaker and she is not allowed to take food by mouth now. She would at times choke while eating because her food would try to go down her trachea because of her weak throat muscles. This caused her pneumonia.

We are praying that she will progress further in her recovery. She will be 89 on Wednesday and is alert and watches the TV show Jeopardy! every day. I visit her at least three times a week. On Sundays I do a small communion service and give her the Body of Christ.
